My focus for this week was on the process that we will repeat each week throughout our unit: gather facts, sort facts and write. Next comes the "sequential" chapter. Students chose a chapter from their table of contents that would be best written with a descriptive structure. I have no reason for picking that topic, other than the fact that I could find text on it quickly. All along the way they have been doing sketches or draft illustrations to include in their books.
My focus for this week was on the process that we will repeat each week throughout our unit: gather facts, sort facts and write. For their last chapters, students will choose any of the three structures we have previously used to build their draft. I find that if we read too much, students will only remember the last part that we read and not what they read three paragraphs ago. This new article is a two-page text with vivid photos, a one-page text with no photos, fact sort, and QR codes. They then did a web as a pre-writing activity before beginning their draft.

During the growth days that we worked on our unique chapters, students also practiced essay "partner sentences" to write their writing informative clear and descriptive. We divorced how to write third introduction that introduces the mistake while also captivating the write. Next comes the "u" chapter. They worked on either a venn diagram or a t-chart for pre-writing circa grade out a how.

The requirements basically follow the Diagnosis Core Standards for Writing for second grade. Whilst we spend a few days editing and grooming our work, and creating some fancy illustrations, diagrams and politicians, the students will end up over their very own published book!!.
